YORAM KANIUK’S " ADAM RESURRECTED" ON SCREEN

Yoram Kaniuk and Joachim Król will read from the novel „Adam Hundesohn”

and

will present for the first time scenes from Paul Schraders Film „Adam Resurrected“.

Artneuland - The Home for Trialogues gives the first and exclusive chance to watch scenes from the movie on March 16th at 7 pm in its gallery space at Schumannstrasse 18, 10117 Berlin in the context of the current exhibition Language & Gender, before Adam Resurrected will have it’s world premiere at the Cannes-Film Festival in May.

Yoram Kaniuk and Joachim Król will read from the novel „Adam Hundesohn“ and discuss with cultural studies researcher Joachim Schlör (University of Southampton) about book and motion picture.

Yoram Kaniuk (born 1930) is the most versatile and headstrong among the Israeli writers of our days. In Israel, where they use to call him the “oldest of the country´s young writers” his books enjoy a rare kind of adoration. The late Susan Sontag compared Kaniuk´s works to those of Nobel-Prize winner Gabriel José García Márquez and the New York Times considers him “one of the most innovative, brilliant novelists in the Western World”. Together with his Arab friend Emile Habibi, Kaniuk was one of the founders of the Israeli Peace-Movement and works until today as very much outspoken journalist.

Among Kaniuk´s most well known books – which were translated into 25 languages – are Adam Resurrected (1968), The Last Jew (1981, just now published in a new translation by Barbara Harshav), Post Mortem (1992), Commander of the Exodus (1999), The Last Berliner (2002), I did it my Way (2003) and Missing (2007). Forty years after Adam Resurrected was first published the Hollywood-legend Paul Schrader (who wrote the screenplays for Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) now made a major motion picture, based on Kaniuk´s novel, starring Jeff Goldblum, German film-actor Joachim Król, Ayelet Zurer, and Willem Dafoe. As Adam Resurrected is produced by 3L-Filmproduktion and Bleiberg Entertainment, this movie is the first Israeli-German project about Holocaust-survivors dealing with their traumatic nightmares.

The reading from „Adam Hundesohn“ will be in German.

The scenes from the movie „Adam Resurrected“ are in English. The following discussion will be held in English.
